Hurlburt Field Phase 2 Advances Sustainability with Continued Mattress Recycling

Hurlburt Field partnered once again with LRP Recycling for Phase 2 of its sustainability initiative, involving the removal and recycling of 65 queen mattress sets. This continued effort highlights the base’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations, waste reduction, and sustainable facility management across U.S. military installations.

Through LRP Recycling’s specialized mattress recycling process, valuable materials such as steel, foam, and textiles were recovered and diverted from landfills. Phase 2 builds upon the success of earlier projects at Hurlburt Field, further reinforcing the base’s dedication to sustainability and operational excellence.

Environmental Impact:

  • 14,170 pounds of material diverted from landfills

  • 65,000 gallons of water conserved

  • 390 days of household energy preserved

  • 520 tanks of gas saved

Hurlburt Field continues to lead by example, demonstrating how military installations can implement sustainable practices that benefit both the environment and the community.
