Camp Lejeune Advances Base Sustainability with Mattress Recycling

Camp Lejeune, a major U.S. military installation in North Carolina, worked with LRP Recycling to responsibly remove and recycle 184 twin mattresses from base housing facilities. This initiative aligns with the Department of Defense's ongoing push for more sustainable operations across all branches.

Here’s the environmental impact from this project:

  • 10,112 pounds of landfill waste prevented

  • 92,000 gallons of water saved

  • 552 days of household energy conserved

  • 736 tanks of gas preserved

Mattress recycling is a small step with big results—and Camp Lejeune continues to lead by example in environmental responsibility.
