Holiday Inn Express & Suites South Portland Strengthens Sustainability with Mattress Recycling

Holiday Inn Express & Suites South Portland by IHG partnered with LRP Recycling to complete a large-scale sustainability initiative involving the removal and recycling of 103 full mattress sets and 55 king mattress sets. This project reflects the hotel’s commitment to environmentally responsible operations while maintaining the high standards of comfort guests expect from the IHG brand.


Through LRP Recycling’s commercial mattress recycling process, valuable materials such as steel, foam, and fabric were recovered and diverted from landfills. This initiative supports IHG’s global sustainability goals and demonstrates how property upgrades can be completed with minimal environmental impact.


Environmental Impact:

  • 29,614 pounds of material diverted from landfills

  • 158,000 gallons of water conserved

  • 948 days of household energy preserved

  • 1,264 tanks of gas saved
