Massachusetts College Strengthens Campus Sustainability with Mattress Recycling

A college in Massachusetts partnered with LRP Recycling to complete the removal and recycling of 200 twin mattresses as part of a campus housing refresh project. This initiative reflects the school’s continued dedication to sustainability, waste reduction, and responsible campus operations.
Through LRP Recycling’s specialized commercial recycling program, all mattresses were processed to ensure materials such as foam, metal, and fabric were diverted from landfills and repurposed responsibly.
Environmental Impact:
10,800 pounds of material diverted from landfills
100,000 gallons of water conserved
600 days of household energy preserved
800 tanks of gas saved
This project demonstrates how colleges can make meaningful environmental progress through practical, scalable sustainability efforts.
