Maine College Pushes Green With 90 Mattress Replacements

A public community college in Maine recently teamed up with LRP Recycling to remove and recycle 90 Twin mattresses from its campus housing units. This initiative underlines the institution’s growing focus on sustainability and waste reduction.


Environmental Impact from this Project:

  • 4,860 pounds of material diverted from landfills

  • 45,000 gallons of water conserved

  • 270 days of household energy saved

  • 360 tanks of gas preserved


This effort shows how colleges—even community colleges—can make meaningful contributions to environmental protection one dorm at a time.
