Rural Action Leads by Example with Community-Based Mattress Recycling

Rooted in the heart of Appalachian Ohio, Rural Action has long championed sustainable and inclusive development. As part of their ongoing efforts to restore the environment and support rural resilience, they recently partnered with LRP Recycling to responsibly recycle mattresses and box springs from various sites across the region.

Empowering Appalachia Through Zero Waste Action

This project included the removal and recycling of:

  • 15 twin mattresses & 11 twin box springs

  • 13 full mattresses & 12 full box springs

  • 20 queen mattresses & 25 queen box springs

  • 25 king mattresses & 20 king box springs

Together, this initiative resulted in:

12,136 pounds of material diverted from landfills

💧 70,500 gallons of water saved

423 days of energy conserved

564 tanks of gas saved

Mission Meets Impact

Rural Action’s commitment to environmental education, zero waste, and economic opportunity continues to make a measurable difference. With partners like LRP Recycling, they’re turning local values into visible outcomes.
