City of Manassas Strengthens Green Initiatives with Mattress Recycling

The City of Manassas, Virginia once again partnered with LRP Recycling to complete a municipal recycling project focused on the responsible removal and recycling of mattresses and box springs from city facilities. The project included 15 twin mattresses, 19 twin box springs, 20 full mattresses, 27 full box springs, 30 queen mattresses, 18 queen box springs, 28 king mattresses, and 18 king box springs — all diverted from landfills through LRP’s sustainable recycling program.

This effort highlights Manassas’ ongoing leadership in environmentally conscious operations, setting an example for municipalities throughout the region by choosing sustainable disposal and recycling methods over traditional waste removal.

Environmental Impact:

  • 25,522 pounds of material diverted from landfills

  • 300,000 gallons of water conserved

  • 1,800 days of household energy preserved

  • 2,400 tanks of gas saved

With projects like this, the City of Manassas continues to demonstrate that sustainability and community responsibility go hand in hand.
