Army Corps of Engineers San Diego Advances Sustainability with Mattress Recycling

The Army Corps of Engineers San Diego partnered with LRP Recycling to responsibly remove and recycle 315 twin mattresses as part of their facility refresh initiative. This project supports the Corps’ ongoing mission to incorporate sustainability into operations and reduce environmental impact across its properties.

By choosing recycling over landfill disposal, the Corps contributed to meaningful resource conservation and environmental preservation.

Environmental Impact:

  • 17,010 pounds of material diverted from landfills

  • 157,500 gallons of water conserved

  • 945 days of household energy preserved

  • 1,260 tanks of gas saved

Through this effort, the Army Corps of Engineers San Diego continues to lead by example in applying environmental responsibility to mission-critical operations.
