One of the best parts of our job here at LRP Recycling is being able to support our community in any way we can. Whether it's volunteering or donating furniture and mattresses to those in need, we're always ready to do what we can. This is exactly why we teamed up with UW and the King County Regional Homelessness Authority (KCRHA) in Seattle. Together, we were able to support Seattle's homeless shelters and donate over 770 UW mattresses.
Supporting Seattle's Homeless Shelters
Every summer, the shelters in Seattle get a mattress refresh and it takes a lot of hands to get the job done. From the mattress donations themselves to physically replacing the mattresses and disposing of the old ones is a big job. The process starts with an invitation for bidders and then find a nonprofit to receive the mattresses. This not only provides people in need with beds to sleep in, it also keeps old mattresses out of the landfill.
This year, our family at LRP Recycling wanted to be part of this wonderful initiative. We are so lucky to have a team in the Seattle area that can help remove and recycle the old mattresses that are being replaced. From here, our team is able to ensure they are recycled properly so they don’t just end up in a landfill.
By recycling these mattresses, we were able to achieve a big goal of everyone involved: avoid as much waste going to the landfill as possible. So not only is this a cheaper option, it’s also a better option as we continue to think ahead for the next generation.
